Double Chocolate Chip Cookies

Andrew and Melinda dug out the Mrs. Field's Cookie Book and (once permission was granted) made Double Chocolate Chip Cookies. They did it all themselves, from start to finish! I, wisely, stayed out of the room while this was going on (I'm too much of a control freak otherwise, and run myself completely out of energy). I only kept my ears wide open to recognize the sound of imminent disaster--of which there was none. They set the oven temperature themselves, made the batter, put trays in and took them out. There was a bit of mess, of course, but nothing too horrendous. I found out later that they had some minor mishaps (the butter was melted instead of softened, and they added the brown sugar to the flour mixture instead of the butter) but employed their problem-solving skills quite efficiently. Good job kiddos!

Chatter...

-I read 14 books last month--the month with 28 days. If I continued to finish reading a book every other day, I'd have read around 182 books in a year! Unfortunately that's not going to happen...I've suffered some major reader's block this month (I'm too busy!)

-Last night Audrey declared "I want to go to jail!" (which is, as I discovered upon questioning, behind the headboard of my bed)

-We're just beginning to study WWII for school. A couple of nights ago Andrew, Melinda, and Audrey were running around in the back yard screaming...come to find out they were "running from the Nazis". I'm glad to know that something is sticking.

-As I was cleaning and organizing things stored in one of our hall closets this weekend, I found all of my Christmas cds. Which, if you recall, I was so certain were in Tahoe while I was in Long Beach that I blogged about my pre-Christmas despair. Yeah, they were here all along. Pitiful I tell ya.

-I had a really wonderful "first experience" last week: I received in the mail my first ever Advanced Reader copy of a book! I was so excited...I haven't read it yet, but still exciting. I was picked to receive it from LibraryThing.com. It's the newest book by Beverly Lewis.

-Meanwhile, I'm still on the search for the perfect color to paint my bedroom (which is currently a bland shade of off-white). I really want something rich and warm, but am worried that the room is too small for it. I'm also noticing that the colors I love look a little odd with all the wood from our bedroom set. The walls are starting to look like a patchwork quilt with all the different blobs of color!

My Mother-in-law is Wonderful!

My mother-in-law is such a great person. She is very generous, of both her time and resources. She is staying at my house this week to help get me jump-started on a diet. I've been wanting to start for some time, but it is just so hard to drum up the motivation all by myself. She is hanging out, fixing all kinds of stuff from SouthBeach phase 1, and providing moral support at the same time. I wouldn't be able to set aside enough time to do all the cooking she has, much less keep up my motivation. What a treat!
